For The Fallen

“They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.”

Sunset behind a gnarled old Oak tree in my garden HSS! Commemorating Armistice Day & remembering the brave sacrifices made by so many millions of people & also animals, especially the horses, over 8 million died in WW1 alone, wrenched from pastures & transported to the battlefields.

Poppies are not generally worn in the Republic of Ireland & the day tend to goes unnoticed, no real mention of it in the media. The fact that over 200,000 Irishmen fought in WW1 (and nearly 50,000 died) is rarely talked of, families ashamed that their relatives fought for the British Army. Thankfully now some commemorations are held here & society is opening up & accepting the ultimate sacrifice made by so many.
