Aqua Fall Dining Room | Abby Lawson

This aqua fall dining room provides so many beautiful and creative ideas for decorating for autumn using a non-traditional color palette!

Well, the temperatures may still be in the 80s around here, but maybe if I decorate my house for fall, the weather will get the memo and I’ll be able to wear a sweater sometime before December? 😉

I am so delighted to be joining my friend Krista from The Happy Housie and 40 (!!!) other awesome bloggers to bring you the Seasonal Simplicity Fall Home Tours this week!

If you’re hopping over from Sarah’s place at All Things with Purpose, welcome! Isn’t her home just beautiful?!

Usually for home tours, I focus in on our main living space– the living room, kitchen, and sometimes the sunroom. But since I’ve shown those areas quite a bit over the years, today I decided to give you a little tour of my fall dining room instead!

C’mon in!

The first thing you’ll probably notice about our fall decor is that it is not your usual orange, yellow, and red.

I used to come up with a different color scheme for each season, buy all sorts of decor to match it, and completely change the look of our home all the time.

While that was fun for a time, I eventually realized that I really just love our home’s “normal” color scheme, so I began using my favorite colors throughout the year, even though they’re not always traditional.

An extra perk to using this method was that I can keep less decor around, which definitely makes storage and organization easier! (And it saves me money too!)

In Christ Alone Canvases
I made these “In Christ Alone” canvases using the same technique I shared in this post.

Our dining room is kind of my “fun” room when it comes to decor. When it’s just the four of us, we eat most of our meals at the kitchen island, so the dining room stays neat and tidy and relatively untouched, making it the perfect candidate for some cute seasonal vignettes.

How to Create a Beautiful Centerpiece in the Dining Room

Rather than doing a full-on tablescape, I opted to do a fall centerpiece on a simple runner.

Aqua and White Fall Centerpiece in the Dining Room

One trick I use to ensure a pretty centerpiece without too much fuss is to employ symmetry. For this centerpiece, I started with the crock full of faux hydrangeas. Then I simply began adding similar items on both sides of it.

I placed similar Ball jars on either side of the crock. Then I did the same with two smaller blue jars on cupcake stands. I placed white pumpkins on the outside of the arrangement with larger aqua glass demijohns behind them. Then I filled in the gaps with smaller items, making sure to keep them symmetrical.

I find many of my aqua glass jars at Hobby Lobby, HomeGoods, and even Target’s Dollar Spot!

As long as I vary the height of the items I’m adding to my centerpiece, the symmetry makes the scene look cohesive and appealing to the eye. This isn’t the only way to create a cute centerpiece, of course, but it always helps make it a bit easier on me!

An Aqua and White Fall Hutch

Once I had finished up the centerpiece on the table, I moved on to one of my most favorite pieces to decorate in our home– my grandmother’s hutch.

I love to layer items on the shelves, with flatter plates and frames in the back and more three-dimensional items in front. Again, I tried to vary the height and depth of the items to create added interest, keeping everything within my color scheme so it all looks cohesive.

Another easy way to add some interest to a space is by displaying a collection– a bunch of the same item all together. I grabbed several of my inexpensive mini pumpkins (a few real, but mostly fake!) and piled them on top of the hutch, and it brought in an instant fall feel!

Decorating a Dining Room Sideboard for Fall

The last little vignette I created in the dining room was on our sideboard. Using my symmetry trick again, I started with a terrarium in the center and added interest with greenery and more mini pumpkins.

I added more aqua glass vessels to carry through that theme from the rest of the room and snipped some hydrangeas from the bush in front of our house. Gotta love free flowers! 🙂

It’s not super complicated, but these little fall touches definitely help our house feel more festive for the season!
